Who is runaway kanye west about

SaraLynnn1 on November 21, This interpretation makes the most sense to me. Very well-written. Thanks for not just connecting the two closest dots together and calling it meaning.

I'm really feeling your take on this. It is very interesting song for psychological observation. As in, why does Kanye feel compelled to be this way? Is it just the way he is and he can't change it? Is he able to change his feelings and behavior as an individual? Or is he stuck this way or just prefers to stay this way?

It's a fascinating look inside his psyche. AndrewAlmond on May 21, Now I'm just wondering which one was the woman he truly loved - or if this was imagined. General Comment I love this song. It is very haunting. This song takes you into the mind of the jerk.

Describing hte mindset of that guy who treats you poorly. Its a confession that he is a bad guy and all those other terms and it is brutally honest, not very apologetic, just describing the situation as it is. No Replies Log in to reply. General Comment I think this one of the best songs ever made.

The minimalism in the music in some parts that just comes together with the other instruments later Kanye reveals something deep within himself about how he can't form relationships and I think he doesn't just mean romantically either.

He just has trouble relating to other people. Song Meaning I think so many people are connecting to a song that seems so deliberately specific because Kanye West is just blatantly telling everyone that he doesn't know how to truly connect with anyone on any level, is always criticizing everything including himself and simply just does not know how to be completely happy with another person or with himself in relationship to his own standards.

The reason people connect with that, is because so many people feel exactly, the same fucking way. So is everyone who has felt the way he has. It's time for a toast because there isn't anything else left to do -- a final admittance to the fact that we are all, intrinsically, terribly shallow people no matter where we come from.

We can improve upon this, but essentially we've been born to disconnect. We're born to satisfy ourselves, or at least what we see as ourselves for the time being.

Then, when we realize that we can't even do that, what else is there left to do but drink, smoke and fuck? I'm just the espresso. I'm just the shot in the morning to get you going to make you believe you can overcome that situation that you're dealing with all the time. But in One of the best videos of all time! Fans and haters alike were turning their backs on him.

You know how people give a backhanded compliment? It was a backhanded apology. It was like, all these raps, all these sonic acrobatics. I was like: 'Let me show you guys what I can do, and please accept me back. You want to have me on your shelves.

That quote always blows my mind. It almost feels like Kanye acknowledging that he only made one of the most beautiful pieces of art ever created He encourages people to fully be themselves, to embrace who they are. In that same interview with the New York Times , which took place three years after My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy , you can finally feel Kanye moving past that guilt he felt about caving to peer pressure.

Instead the version of Kanye responded in the way we know the version of Kanye would respond:. Beauty, truth, awesomeness.

The Runaway film is the visual depiction of that birth into a new life. Sometimes we best understand artists by simply looking at their art.

So, in the spirit of my new film podcast , I'm going to take a look at what the ending of Runaway signaled about Kanye West in , and why that experience shaped his behavior in Runaway opens with a shot of Kanye running through the forest.

We actually start with the moment where the Phoenix is burning through the stratosphere and into space, with Kanye chasing after her. We think that Kanye is running away from something, as opposed to running towards something. I believe Kanye uses this song to reference his life leading up to the My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy era—trapped by his own doing in the spotlight, crucified and criticized by news outlets, late night talk show hosts, and celebrities who felt the need to speak out.

In his own way, Kanye was experiencing his own judgement day after the Taylor Swift incident. And that's where we'll note the difference between Kanye and Kanye. The real one is far to mean. The watered down, the one you know, was made up centuries ago. They it sound all wack and corny, yes its awful blasted boring. Twisted fiction, sick addiction—well gather round children. Zip it, listen! The journey to actually achieving fame is long and arduous and can break a man in two.

But this goes far beyond fame. The phony one, the one you know, Was cooked up years and years ago, And made to sound all soft and sappy Just to keep the children happy. But I think it extends to what each person pours their heart and soul into. In an absolutely breathtaking shot, Kanye zooms in on the Phoenix falling towards earth. Then as the camera pulls back, outer space and all the stars remain still, but the clouds are moving and whirling about at a rapid pace.

It creates this ethereal, disorienting effect that something otherworldly is disrupting time and space on earth—and Kanye happens to be driving through the forest in that moment. So much is being conveyed with that environment. You have the stars set in place, you have something fantastical happening in the sky, you have nature exposed and innocent—and then you have Kanye, housed in his Murcielago. Kanye is in a constant battle with his authenticity as an artist and his desire for status.

In the film, Kanye takes the bird to what looks like a parade with a huge Michael Jackson cast being wheeled through amidst fireworks and the effigies of a black and white angel.

The parade represents the power of white supremacy within culture, with Jackson wheeled along in mourning by the very people that opposed him and exploited him for his entertainment. By the end of the scene, the child has been cultivated in a Klansman hood, walking slowly holding the torch. The dinner party is all-white-themed, with the table and guests dressed up in their finest white clothing and the ballerina performers wearing black. The inspiration from this scene came from Vanessa Beecroft , an Italian artist and regular collaborator with Kanye, who later worked on his Yeezy Season shows.

Her piece VB65 features a table of 20 African immigrants in suits eating chicken and drinking water without platters or silverware, in a scene parodying the last supper.

All eyes turn to her as they enter. They begin eating and all is normal until Kanye is spoken to by another guest. This line evokes the overall message of the film — that the element of fame is what removes individuals of their character and morality.
